More than 75 UUCB members and friends toured the church building after the Sunday service on April 9 to kick off the 2017 stewardship campaign, “Building…all ways.” The visitors “oohed” and “aahed” at the spaciousness of the new sanctuary as sunshine highlighted the windows’ bright colors and patterns.
They were treated to a preview of music to come as choir members grouped on the risers to the dais and sang “For the Beauty of the Earth.” Downstairs they viewed the large meeting room, RE rooms, staff offices, kitchen space, back stairs, and rear exit. They beamed with pleasure as they saw the elevator that will make the sanctuary fully accessible. UUCB expects to hold its first service in the new sanctuary in June.
At the time of the tour most of the drywall was up, rough electrical wiring, plumbing, and heating were in place, the fire suppression sprinkler system had been installed, and walls on the first floor had been insulated. Roger Lee was helping the crew to remove old plaster from the sanctuary walls. In the weeks and months ahead there will be many opportunities for volunteer assistance, including reinstalling the kitchen in May and moving in and arranging the contents of the building in early June. Watch for email notices about help needed.
