SEPTEMBER SERVICES

SEPT 7

Coming Home:  Ingathering Sunday

Led by our minister, Pam Gross

We return to our regular 10:00 AM service time with an intergenerational celebration and traditional water communion.  Everyone is invited to share stories and a small container of water from their summer journeys . . . from the well that nurtured your garden, the lake you canoed, or the ocean you surfed in, or even your tears.  The shared water may then be taken home as a symbol of the many streams that come together to create our faith community.

SEPT 14

Mahatma Ghandi on Truth and Nonviolence:  Lessons for Today   Led by Doug Allen

Professor Allen had Smithsonian and Fulbright grants in India, and teaches courses in Marxism, Hinduism, and Buddhism at the University of Maine in Orono.  His courses deal with sexism, racism, and peace and justice issues.  Prof. Allen will be available for continuing conversation after the service.

This is potluck Sunday.  Even if you forget to bring a dish to share, don't forget to stay for lunch.

SEPT 21

Looking for God in all the Wrong Places

Led by our minister, Pam Gross

Judge Moore and the Ten Commandments monument have brought the separation of church and state into the headlines and our conversations, while our denomination struggles with what "a language of reverence" might be.  Theological questions emerge along with the search for answers.

SEPT 28

On Being Disagreeable

Led by Morten Moesswilde

In a religious movement that encourages free thinking, but espouses common principles, disagreement is a constant reality.  Beyond our own walls is a society racked by confusion and argument.  This service is a personal reflection on form and substance of clear thinking -- and of recognizing and working out differences, without being disagreeable.

OCT 5

Friends and Philosophy:  Religion and Next-door Neighbors

Led by our minister, Pam Gross

Are these mixtures a sure fire way to disagreement, or a fundamental lesson in love?  Finding common ground in a diversity of belief is sometimes a dance.

This is Bring a Friend Sunday!  Invite someone you know (or would like to know) to our service today.
