Breaking into the New Year

led by Jane Dopheide

The fourth of our UU holiday traditions (following the Festival of Lights, Solstice, and Christmas Eve) is a service connecting us to earlier societies whose members exchanged branches from sacred trees for remembrance.  The congraegation is invited to reflect personally on what they want to leave behind, and what they want to invite into their lives at this turn of the calendar.  Everyone is invited to bring a stick of choice to add to the baskets.

Winter Reflections

Led by Mike Shannon

Maturalist Mike Shannon brings us another of his much loved services of reflections and readings on the natural world in winter.  Members of the congregation are also invited to bring brief readings in keeping with the season.

Wrestling with the Bible

led by Beth Bidlack

Why should UUs bother with the Bible?  Does the Bible have a place in our liberal religrious tradition today?  Come “wrestle” with the Bible and see if it is relevant to your search for truth and meaning.  This will be a unique opportunity to meet a UU biblical scholar!  Since 2001, Beth Bidlack has been the Librarian and a member of the faculty at Bangor Theological Seminary.  She has a PhD from Boston University and since 1990 has taught biblical languages and literature.  She is currently pursuing UU ministry and is a member of the UU church in Ellsworth.

FEB. 1

The Meaning of Leadership
Led by Linda Bowe

We are living in a time when “good leadership” is needed more than ever.  But leadership is a complex and difficult term to define, and those who hold positional authority in an organization may fall short of actually providing leadershp for the people in their care.  In this service Linda Bowe will discuss the questions that have arisen for her about the value of moral leadership and its application to her work with educational leaders around the state.
