NOVEMBER SERVICES

OCT 31

The Witches Are Still Among Us

given by Coleen O'Connell

On this Halloween Sunday, chronicling the history of the word "witch" and the women who were the witches will bring us to the present practice of the feminine sacred.

NOV 7

An Anniversary Celebration

given by Linda Buckmaster and friends

The Belfast Unitarian Universalist community was formed 10 years ago this month by a small group of people committed to a "free and responsible search for truth and meaning."  In this service we celebrate the journey this community has taken, and the contributions of its many members and friends, both new and old. This church is a story that is still being told.

NOV 14

The Hungry Ghosts

given by Debbie Bailly

In Buddhism, "wanting" is portrayed as a Hungry ghost, a ghost with an enormous belly and a tiny mouth, who can never eat enough to satisfy its endless need. The insatiable craving for MORE (objects, sense pleasures, esteem, power, love, etc.) is a common human activity. We seek happiness, fulfillment, and contentment by endlessly trying to satisfy our desires, but it's like trying to quench our thirst with seawater - the more we drink, the thirstier we become. Debbie reflects on how to want what we already have.

NOV 21

TBD

given by Dick Snyder

Details for this service were undetermined as this newsletter was being set.

NOV 28

Conflict, Confluence, Courage, and the Principles

given by Judith Simpson

Judith will ask what might happen if we replaced agreeing and disagreeing with listening and respect. Would this really be easier said than done?  Biologist E. O. Wilson said "diversity or die!" Why? And what does this mean for us, here and now?

DEC 5

Can I Hold the Baby?

given by children of our church

This service is an intergenerational pageant presentation detailing the birth of Jesus Christ from a UU perspective. Many beautiful songs are sung by our choir during this entertaining service. Bring your camera!
