JANUARY SERVICES

JAN 1

Moving On in Peace: A New Year's Reflection

given by Jane Dopheide

Jane will reflect on her process of “letting go” and moving “home” from Winterport to Belfast. She will then lead the traditional stick ceremony.  This year she invites participants to reflect on what they can leave behind and what they can bring into their lives to manifest peace in the world during the coming year. People are encouraged to bring their own sticks, or they can use one of those collected from some “wise old apples” in Jane’s Winterport yard.

JAN 8

Our Church of the Future

given by our minister, Pamela Gross

Yearning is a critical element of faith and growth. In this service Pam will ask us to enter a spiritual practice of imagining our church in the future.  For what do we yearn?

JAN 15

How to Reclaim the Dream: A Martin Luther King, Jr.,

Celebration

given by the Rev. T. Richard Snyder

Martin Luther King, Jr. offered the nation a vision of a society in which all persons are treated with dignity and fairness. Increasingly, he came to emphasize the importance of ending poverty, as well as racism. Despite the illusion of progress, the stark reality of poverty and the increasing gap between rich and poor demand that the dream be renewed. How do we unmask the illusion and reclaim the dream?

JAN 22

Given by the Rev. Mark Glovin

Since Mark last fed our souls with his service about joy, he has been

ordained and become minister to the First Universalist Church in

Rockland. He hasn’t told us yet what he plans for this service, so watch the papers or come in faith, and welcome Mark back to midcoast Maine.

JAN 29

Bowing to the Adversaries

given by Lane Fisher

Joanna Macy’s variation on a Buddhist practice of bowing to the adversaries has helped Lane through some spiritual challenges and increased her appreciation for how those who test her make her stretch. Come reflect on how it might apply to your life and to the need for unity and respect within our communities.

FEB 5

We welcome Rabbi Amita Jarmon back to UU Belfast.
