MARCH SERVICES

MAR 5

Replacing Fear with Love

given by the Rev. Jill Saxby

Jill Saxby, our first minister, is executive director of the Maine Council of Churches, a working partnership of eight denominations “to build a culture of justice, compassion, and peace” in our state. The council, which includes Unitarian Universalists, has programs that promote restorative, economic, and environmental justice. Come welcome Jill and Ed Saxby back to hear her perspective

on what churches can best accomplish by working together.

After the service, Jill will make a Powerpoint presentation about Maine Council of Churches projects. If you know members of other churches who might be interested in seeing this, please ask them to join us at 11:30.

MAR 12

It’s Just Money...or Money Justice

given by our minister, Pam Gross

What we do or don’t do with our money, individually and collectively,  says much about our principles of faith and our ideas about justice.   The words “value” and “worth” have so many deep and varied meanings; how can we find a balance?

MAR 19

Mercy!

given by the Rev. Kate Braestrup

Justice must be tempered by mercy--and yet the concept of mercy is a troubling one to many UUs. What's our problem, and how do we get beyond it as we work for a just world? (Kate, a frequent guest speaker at our church, is the Maine Warden Service's chaplain.)

MAR 26

Restorative Justice: A Vision for Change

given by members of our Social Justice Committee.

Today, on Social Justice Sunday, we will join UUs nationwide in support of human rights and economic justice for all. Our service will focus on restorative justice, a response to crime that emphasizes remorse, forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation rather than punishment and shame.

APR 2

“Have It Your Way”

given by our minister, Pam Gross

Some have seen Unitarian Universalism as a drive-through religion, a fast-food fix for people in a hurry, while others find that it is a veritable feast for the soul. So what exactly are we serving here?
