SEPTEMBER SERVICES

SEPT 3

The Spirituality of Labor

given by Tim Wilson

On the morning before Labor Day, we will give thanks for our work, both paid and unpaid, and we'll also give thanks to those who sacrificed so much for our basic labor rights.

Please note: this service begins at 9:00 AM. On September 10 services will return to their regular starting time of 10:00 AM.

SEPT 10

The Waters of Life

given by our minister, Pam Gross

In a UU/Belfast tradition, in our Water Service, we return from our summer peregrinations to celebrate our church community and the diverse experiences that we, as individuals, bring to it. Please bring a vial of water collected over the summer to pool with others’ offerings.

SEPT 17

Looking Beyond the Obvious

given by Deborah Lipsky, M.Ed.

Calling upon figures in history as well as personal experience, Deborah Lipsky will encourage focus on people’s abilities, rather than on their disabilities.  A national speaker and recipient of the 2006 Temple Grandin Award, Deb is autistic. She is a member of the Houlton, Maine, UU Church.

SEPT 24

Harvesting the Gifts of the Ancestors

given by Coleen O'Connell

At this harvest time of year, each of us can look at what our ancestors have given us and what these gifts tell us about the present and perhaps the future.  Coleen will draw on the work of Joanna Macy in this service.

OCT 1

Forgiveness and Atonement

given by David Smith

This service honors the Jewish High Holy Days and Yom Kippur, which is October 2.  Having come to Judaism through his marriage, and inspired by a course in forgiveness that he completed last spring in the University of Maine’s Peace Studies program, David will explore the processes of forgiveness and atonement.
