OCTOBER SERVICES

OCT 1

The Sacred and the Profane

given by our minister, Pam Gross

How do objects, words, and rituals acquire potent meaning for human beings? Unitarian Universalists affirm the individual's search for truth and meaning--and then, inevitably, sometimes find ourselves in deep disagreement about what is sacred and what is not.

OCT 8

National Coming Out Day

given by Amy Bernhardt with the Welcoming Congregation Committee

A guest from the Maine Speakout Project, an organization that trains GLBT Mainers to tell their stories, will be featured at this service. National Coming Out Day is an annual celebration by the Human Rights Campaign that recognizes the courage it takes for GLBT people to admit to themselves and others the truth about their sexuality.

OCT 15

Does the World Need a Policeman?

given by the Rev. Kate Braestrup

If the world really does need a cop, how would a good one handle the job?  Kate, intimately acquainted with law enforcement, will offer her perspective.  Mark your calendar! Today, a potluck lunch follows the service. Bring a salad, main course, or dessert to share. In any event, please stay!

OCT 22

Sorry, I’m on the Way to Truth

given by Mair Honan

This will be a reflection on the value and difficulty of being present to the person right in front of us. Mair, a longtime Buddhist, therapist, and resident of Lincolnville, graduated from Bangor Theological Seminary. She is co-founder of Grace-Street Ministry in Portland.

OCT 29

Witches’ Words

given by our minister, Pam Gross

What can we learn about good and evil from the mouths of witches?

Glinda and Elphaba (from the book Wicked) will speak.

NOV 5

What’s UU Got To Do with It?

(New Member Sunday)

It’s been 12 years since a small group of UUs began holding services at the Belfast Dance Studio, and look how our church has grown! We’ll explore the challenges and opportunities of a growing and changing membership.  for both new members and longstanding ones.
