DECEMBER SERVICES

DEC 3

How We Die:  Reflections on Death and Dying

given by the Rev. T. Richard Snyder

DEC 10

Festivals of Light

given by members of our Lifespan Religious Education Community and our minister, Pam Gross

We will gather for an intergenerational celebration of this season, so potent in diverse religious traditions.

DEC 17

The Jewish Calendar Cycle and Chanukah: The Darkness of Sun and Moon

given by Rabbi Barry Krieger

On Chanukah, Jewish tradition celebrates the rededication of the land of Israel to a minority people and culture when a small band of resistors defeated the larger armies of the Assyrians--the first time a people fought for their religious and political freedoms.

DEC 24

Expectations

given by our minister, Pam Gross

This is a season based on tales of unexpected gifts arriving in unexpected ways. What happens when we live our lives expecting the unexpected?

DEC 25

Jesus and the Great Commandment: Foundational Love

given by Tim Wilson

Tim will explore Jesus’ love for all people, His blessing on the world, and what this love means to us.

DEC 31

Breaking In the New Year

given by Jane Dopheide

Our annual New Year’s service connects us to earlier societies whose members exchanged branches from sacred trees. Those attending are invited to reflect personally and as a congregation on what they want to leave behind and what they want to bring into their lives as the year turns. Everyone is encouraged to bring a stick to add to the baskets.

JAN 7

Stars Above and Stars Within: Seeking and Following

given by Susan Silvario

How do we create sanctuaries for children’s spiritual experience and development?  Susan Silvario is living this question now and will share her reflections.  As well as insights from Rudolf Steiner. Founding teacher of Ashwood Waldorf School, Susan now teaches kindergarten at Spindlewood in Lincolnville, near her family homestead. She leads LifeWays Early Childhood Training Seminars. Susan also is a founder of Mid-Coast Hospitality House, which offers shelter for homeless families and prison visitors.  What can we learn about good and evil from the mouths of witches?  Glinda and Elphaba (from the book Wicked) will speak.
