In the Growing
Warmth
given by Sylvia Sims
February 2 is
known by many names: Brigid’s Day, for the Celtic
Goddess of fire and inspiration, and Oimelc or Imbolc (which means “new lambs”). When Christianity came, it was renamed Candlemas, and, of course, we also know it as Groundhog
Day. By whichever name and whatever ceremony it is celebrated, the day
marks the knowledge that, in the deepest cold of winter, the spring is
coming to birth in the growing warmth of the sun, and we will rejoice!

On Disobedience: Our Heritage, Our Unfinished Business
given by Helen
Hughes
Our UU tradition is one of struggle and action. It is not a
tradition of
smug
self-congratulation. We must know it well if we are not to lose it.
There are always forces at work to deprive us of it.

The War Against
the Imagination
given by the Rev. Mark Glovin
Muriel Rukeyser said, “The world is composed of stories, not
atoms.” The stories we tell weave the fabric of the world around us. And so
using the lens of pronoia, we have to be mindful
of our narrative: what stories do we tell, expose ourselves to, and immerse
ourselves in?
