Heaven on Earth
given by our
minister, Pam Gross
The idea of heaven on Earth is deeply embedded in our Unitarian
Universalist history and tradition. Today, there are many voices expressing
the idea that we create our reality from our Intentions and, because of
that, it is possible for us to create heaven on Earth, personally and
collectively. The book, The Secret, is the latest entry into this dialogue.
What does The Secret have to do with Unitarian Universalism?

From Collateral Damage to Community
given by Robert Shetterly
The economics of consumption require exploitation and
collateral damage to all of Earth’s species, including our own, says artist
and activist Rob Shetterly. He proposes that the
key to protecting ourselves and our planet is rebuilding community. Since beginning his Americans Who Tell
the Truth (www.americanswhotellthetruth.org) portraits in 2002, Rob has
been in constant motion, working to stop the war and following his
portraits and their subjects around the country and world. He has just
returned to his home in Brooksville from Rwanda.

Tending our Gardens: A Communion
with Flowers given
by Jane Dopheide
What does it mean to “tend” a garden—whether it is one of
flowers, of children, or a church community? One of the ways is to notice and celebrate
the diversity of its members. Please bring a flower to share and exchange
for our Flower Communion.

Gaia, Mother
Earth, and the Oneness of Everything
given by Jim Scott
The idea of Mother
Earth or “Gaia” being a living organism with the same physical attributes
(heart, lungs, circulatory system) as humans leads us to a deeper
connection with our life support system. With the spirit of life on Earth
in crisis, churches can offer a necessary spiritual response. Jim Scott
intersperses original songs and readings with his personal reflections on a
spiritual ecological awareness, leaving participants with a vision and
inspiration to take healing into our own hands. As former co-chair of the UU Seventh
Principle Project, Jim Scott helped create the UUA’s Green Sanctuary
program. His songs of Earth have educated and inspired audiences across the
United States and the world, and his “Earth and Spirit Songbook,” supported
by a grant from the Fund for Unitarian Universalism, is becoming widely
acclaimed by UU congregations.
