Dec. 2 ’Tis the Season
given by the Rev. Danielle Di Bona
There
is no way to avoid it...the holiday season is upon us. How will we
embrace
this season....with a calm heart or so stressed our teeth itch? Let’s
look
at ways to enjoy this sometimes crazy-making time of year.
Dec. 9 Great Expectations
given by the Rev. T. Richard Snyder
In
the Christian calendar, Advent is a season of expectancy—a time of waiting
for
a messiah who will transform the world. In an age of “political realism,”
what
does it mean to live with the certitude that our world can be
transformed?
Dec. 16 A Winter’s Tale
given by Mike Shannon
Come
relax your mind and spirit as we welcome the winter season. Enjoy
stories,
poems, and reflections that connect us to the winter landscape. A
special
solstice story will highlight this morning’s service.
Dec. 23 Little Pieces of Light
given by our minister, Pam Gross
In
our lives, as in the cycles of nature, we have seasons of darkness. What
sustains
us at these times, and how can we be fully open to it?
Dec. 24 7:00 PM A Festival of Stories and Carols
given by Sumner Roberts and members of the congregation
Come
together for a community celebration of mystery, wonder, joy,
love...and
chocolate.
Dec. 30 Calm Abiding
given by Hugh Curran
At
the turn of the year, consider what Buddhism has to teach us about
focusing
the mind to achieve clarity, stability, and “calm abiding.” A longtime
Buddhist,
Hugh is a director of the Morgan Bay Zendo and a professor in
the
University of Maine’s Peace Studies Program.
January 6 Breaking In the New Year
given by Jane Dopheide
The
first service of the New Year will include our annual Stick Ceremony
and
its invitation to reflect on what we want to leave behind us and what we
want
to invite into our lives. Jane will share a reflection on how her
definition
of
“time well spent” has changed during the past year. All are invited
to
bring sticks for the baskets.
