In Celebration of our Children led
by Danielle and Jason Bannister, the RE guides, and children Come learn
“What’s been happening upstairs” during the church year as our younger
members carry their chalice, energies, creativity, and senses of wonder to the second
floor each Sunday morning. (This is an intergenerational service.) June 8
Unashamed and Unapologetic: A New UU? given
by our minister, Pam Gross Recent news
reported that the mission statement for the Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s UCC
congregation includes the phrase: “unashamedly black and unapologetically
Christian.” Can UUs take their stands with similar passion? June
15 From Warrior to Resister Two months
ago, Dud Hendrick visited Vietnam for the third time, the first being 1966-67,
when he volunteered to serve as a U.S. Air Force officer. Reflecting on
how those experiences influenced him, he says, “I’m overwhelmed with gratitude
for the maturation, awareness, and spiritual growth they inspired.
Thanks largely to my personal connection to Vietnam, I am today a member
of Veterans for Peace, committed to working in the interest of our shared
humanity and for the abolishment of war as an instrument of foreign policy.” Last
month, as one of the Bangor Six protesting the war in Iraq, the Deer Isle
resident was found not guilty of criminal trespassing at Senator Susan
Collins’s office in Bangor. June
22 Silver Linings given
by Paula Roberts When events
don’t go as one hopes or expects, there is often something shining around the
edges. Paula Roberts will reflect on discoveries made during her term as
co-chair of our Church Council. June
29 Growing Within the Church: A Flower Communion given
by Jane Dopheide and Margaret Macleod In our annual
flower communion, we come together to celebrate the wonderful diversity of
individuals in our congregation and observe how being involved in this community
can help the development of our faith and spirit. (All are invited to bring a
flower to add to the communal vase.) July 6
9:00 AM (summer schedule) How Can We Keep from Singing? given
by Sumner Roberts Do you feel a
surge of gladness when the next hymn turns out to be a beloved one? Do you
love to hear spontaneous harmonies arising from our congregation? Then join us
for Sumner’s “hymn sing,” one of the most spirited services of the year,
and be ready to request your favorites.
