Services are at 10:00 AM at the
UU Church of Belfast, 37 Miller St., behind the Belfast Free
Library. Please call 338-4482 for more information. Children, infants and new faces
are always welcome. Please join us! May 3 Did Jesus Die for Our
Sins? given by the Rev. T. Richard
Snyder Dick will explore how Christian
doctrine and our nation’s appetite for punishment are linked. Is
punishment healthy or even necessary? May 10 Feeding the Least given by Marie Malin Spiritual leaders of all
traditions call us to take care of one another, especially those who are hungry, sick,
lonely, or suffering in any way. What we sometimes forget is that by
reaching out to those in need, we reach out to our own spirits. By “feeding
the least,” we ourselves are fed. Marie Malin is a student at Bangor
Theological Seminary, seeks ordination in the united Church of Christ and
delights “this crazy thing called life.” May 17 What Are Old People For? given by the Rev. Katharine
Hope Winthrop Kitsy will share a deepening
understanding of the needs of elders and our society’s need of what elders
have to offer. What she is learning and relearning in this vein is, she says,
“critical to our becoming wiser as, together, we continue to ‘take our world
in for repairs.’” Kitsy has served eight congregations--including
UU-Belfast in 1996-98--since moving to Portland 14 years ago. May 24 Where Did She Go? given by Coleen O’Connell When our loved ones pass, where
do they go? In the spirit of UU questioning and search for our own truths,
on this Memorial Day weekend we will explore how it is that our
loved ones are present for us in this world. May 31 In This Moment given by Judith Simpson Later today we will celebrate Pam’s
ordination, but we begin this Sunday with some special quiet.
Slowing down and giving time to mindfulness is one way we can minister to
ourselves and become more available to others, as well. Come and settle--at
least for one morning--into a practice of choosing to be in the present
moment, on purpose and without judgment. June 7 Stirring Up Minds given by Danielle Bannister and
the Life Span Education Committee According to William Ellery
Channing, “The great end in religious instruction is not to stamp our
minds upon the young, but to stir up their own.” How does our RE program
live up to this statement? How can we make it stronger?
