An important part of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast’s mission is to honor differences and to foster peace, justice, and sustainability in ourselves and our world. Our covenant affirms that we will “practice respect and compassion for all, including those whose beliefs or backgrounds differ from our own.” UUCB works towards these goals through initiatives, collaborations, and community activities that reach beyond our own church community, helping individuals as well as organizations that serve people in need. We strive to improve the quality of life and meet particular needs of area residents and to welcome them to our events and our community.

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast helps provide food, fuel, and other assistance t to local residents in need through the collaborative Greater Belfast Area Ministerium.  Through the WindowDressers project, volunteers fabricate and make available to local residents energy-saving window inserts.  UUCB is well known through the area for its well-stocked clothing, yard, and book sales, which benefit many low income residents.  The sales offer wide array of good quality, low-priced merchandise, and the end-of the day “bag sales” offer huge bargains.  Members and friends of the church donate goods and sort, display, and sell the merchandise.

WSol 3 (LF)Proceeds from the annual Winter Solstice Celebration, admission to which is by donation, are contributed to an organization that serves people in need. The annual Potluck Thanksgiving Dinner welcomes anyone to share food and companionship on the holiday.
